<2025 Fall Colloquium #1: Expanding Diagnostic Methods through Color-Response-Based Pattern Recognition (Prof. Junseok Lee)>
ㅇ Speaker: Prof. Junseok Lee (School of Transdisciplinary Innovations / Department of Chemistry)
ㅇDate & Time: Thursday, November 20, 2025,
4:00 PM
ㅇ Location: 1st Floor Lecture Room, Haedong
Advanced Engineering Building (Bldg. 303)
ㅇ Lecture Overview
The COVID-19 pandemic significantly heightened public interest in molecular diagnostic technologies, particularly diagnostic kits and various testing methods.
Yet the foundation of technologies that determine the presence or severity of any disease — not only infectious diseases — lies in molecular recognition technology, which selectively identifies specific biomarkers among biomolecules.
This lecture introduces research that uses chromogenic materials — molecules and materials that exhibit color — to distinguish biological or complex real-world samples that lack a clearly defined marker molecule, through “colorimetric patterns.”
It will also discuss methodologies for developing new materials in the era of big data and artificial intelligence, and for generating substantively meaningful data through these approaches.
ㅇ Speaker Bio
Professor Junseok Lee has conducted research in chemical biology, developing and applying fluorescent molecules of diverse structures. More recently, his work has focused on developing chemoproteomics techniques to investigate drug mechanisms and elucidate the pathogenesis of novel diseases.
