Good afternoon. I am Jae W. Lee, Director of the AI Institute at Seoul National University.

It is a great pleasure to welcome you all to the Human-Centered AI Research Workshop, jointly organized by Seoul National University and Carnegie Mellon University. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the distinguished guests from industry, academia, and research for joining us.

This workshop centers on Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence—an area of growing importance as we envision AI not as a replacement for human abilities, but as an ethical and inclusive technology that strengthens and supports them. The HCAI SNU-CMU Center embodies this vision by striving to ensure that rapidly advancing AI technologies contribute positively to human lives and fulfill their broader social responsibilities.

I hope today’s discussions will provide a meaningful platform for scholars and practitioners to share insights, exchange ideas, and explore new avenues of collaboration. More importantly, I believe this gathering will mark another step forward in shaping a future where AI is aligned with human values and dedicated to serving society.
